Jillian Piper

I'm a journalist, editor and producer currently living in Ottawa. I enjoy building community and holding power to account.

Since May, I've been the audience engagement editor at rabble.ca. I am responsible for managing rabble's fundraising, donor and reader subscriptions, Google Analytics, newsletters and social media accounts, as well as optimizing the WordPress website for SEO and readability. I've also conducted interviews for rabble radio.

​

As a freelance producer and former intern for Global News, I've coordinated interviews for The National broadcast and asked politicians questions on Parliament Hill. I pitched and wrote a story about how federal sanctions on Russia are affecting Canadian farmers.

I served as editor-in-chief of the Charlatan, Carleton University's student-run newspaper. I approved all editorial content across the paper's nine daily digital sections and social media accounts, oversaw the production of two print magazine issues, managed a staff of 15 individuals as well as launched a new logo, newsletter, podcast and social media strategy — all while taking a full courseload of classes. Previously, I worked as a features editor and news editor at the Charlatan.

I've also reported for Ottawa-based publications including The Ottawan and Capital Current. I pitched and wrote stories, took photos and created accompanying multimedia content including data visualizations, audio clips and animated graphics.

Outside of my journalistic work, I am the director of operations for the Canadian University Press. I served as the production assistant for Carleton University's Institute of African Studies' academic journal Nokoko, conducted professional communications research for the University of Ottawa's Brain and Mind Research Institute and acted as a communications consultant for Ottawa charity Paws with a Cause.
